Talk: Pub Culture in Salford

Time: Saturday 15th June 12:00 – 12:40

Location: Talks Stage

In partnership with University of Salford.

Take a seat at the bar and join us as we explore Salford’s history of pubs and pub culture. Since the industrial revolution, the pub or ‘alehouse’ has functioned as a place of respite from working life.

This still rings true for many of us today, as having a drink in the local pub, or getting a hearty pub-grub lunch is a staple weekend activity. As well as being key social and community spaces through the hosting of quizzes, live music and live-streamed sporting events, pubs are increasingly transforming brewing into a ‘craft’.

This panel celebrates the role of Salford pubs as sites of community and creativity in their role in the ‘renaissance’ of beer brewing.

Historian Dr Deborah Woodman shares the heritage of pubs in our culture. We’ll be discussing the renaissance in beer brewing (craft brewing) with Seven Bro7hers. Owner of the Kings Arms, Lisa Connor shares how the historic Salford institution has continued to evolve to the needs of the community and as a hub of theatre, gigs and knitting.
