Richard Evans: HoloCity

This presentation by Richard Evans combines sci-fi short film, pop-up displays and electronic music to explore life in a future megacity. Through an immersive soundscape, panoramic visuals and hologram-style projections, the narrative asks how we retain empathy amidst environmental change and the rise of technologies that expand what it means to be human.

In the storyworld, HoloCity is a sanctuary built by the Halcyen Corporation as a space for frontier research in AI and biotech. Refugees, known as skimmers, flock there to escape the effects of climate change, to seek jobs and new beginnings.

The title is derived from the Chinese term kongcheng, meaning a ‘hollow city’ – a metropolis with a large transitory population.

Walk through the installation and experience a projection mapped show combining video, holographic screen and spatial audio.

HoloCity is produced by Cold Star Media, with support from the University of Salford, the Centre for Sustainable Innovation and MITIH.
