Painted People
Following its debut at the Pendleton School of Theatre, ‘Painted People’ brings the industrial heart of Salford to life through a fusion of ballet, tap and contemporary dance.
Drawing inspiration from Gillian Lynne’s ‘A Simple Man‘, the piece explores L.S. Lowry’s world, from the relationship with his mother and the mystery of ‘Ann,’ to the rhythmic hustle and bustle of the factory gates. These iconic ‘matchstick men’ step off the canvas to reveal the quiet corners and everyday rhythms of a city in motion—a dynamic celebration of movement that transforms Lowry’s vision into a living, breathing portrait of Salford.
