Freetime Stage Performance - no ticket required Sunday We Play

Manchester-based multi-disciplinary artist OneDa shares her latest single ‘VIBES’, accompanied by the official video. The track is out April 27 on all available platforms via Heavenly Recordings.

Having recently signed to the highly respected independent imprint Heavenly Recordings, OneDa has been grafting in the studio with the likes of Gabe Gurnsey and Mr Scruff to create catchy wordplay and gold-plated flow, all fired by an empowered philosophy. The music bumps and rolls, bringing pumped-up basslines, spare drums and grimey synths that provide the perfect landscape for her vocal vibe energy. Written over lockdown, VIBES came about very organically following a series of emails between the producer Gabe Gurnsey, the engineer Phil Kirby and OneDa to create the high vibrational track. It’s all about bringing the correct energy, whilst protecting your own at the same,” the artist states. “I believe we were placed on this earth to shine and guide. This song encapsulates the essence of shining in your power and guiding.”

OneDa is performing at We Invented the Weekend as part of Sounds From The Other City’s festival takeover: SFTOQuays.

Location: The Freetime Stage at the Seven Brothers Stretch Tent

Sunday 4:30pm – 5pm

Accessible for: Step-free, all ages

For the last few years, OneDa has been running hip hop therapy sessions for east Manchester youth, working with Pupil Referral Units, Reform Radio and on the influential Herchester project for womxn, non-binary and transgender MCs across Manchester, Blackpool, Morcambe and Sheffield. Growing up in a musical family that was also highly religious – her Nigerian parents ran their own church and the whole family sang in the choir – led a young OneDa to read music, play trumpet in a brass band, rap and sing in her own gospel group ‘In Depth’. She also went on to work with influential Manchester hip hop group The Mouse Outfit, building a dedicated audience across the city and beyond. Right now she’s on a writing roll, generating lyrics for days and bringing her livewire energy to performances across the UK (including recent knock-out shows in London, Brighton and Margate). She’s also broadcasting regular Pussy Power talks and dabbling with fashion design. 2022 is the year OneDa brings her own high vibrations and energy to a global stage, as she seamlessly blends old school and new school vibes throughout her outputs.
