We Were There: Bernard Morgan (D-Day Veteran)
Bernard, Second World War RAF Volunteer Reserve
On 6 June 1944, D-Day, Bernard took part in the Normandy landings at Gold Beach. Bernard was moored offshore until 6:30 pm. During this time, he was tasked with manning a Bren gun to ward off enemy aircraft; he was the youngest RAF sergeant to land on the Gold Beach. After fighting through Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany, he was sent east and demobilised in 1947. Bernard was one of the first people to receive the message that victory in Europe had been achieved but was unable to release the news for two days!
Join him on the 82nd anniversary of D-Day to hear his amazing stories.
