Music Performance Sunday The Lowry Workshop

Batuku Performance by Creolas di Salford

Sunday 16 Jun 12.30-1.15pm
Studio 1 at The Lowry

We invite you to come and join us as we perform, dance, and sing as one. Experience the rhythm of Batuku and feel the vibrant energy of our community.

Batuku is a traditional music and dance style from Cape Verde, an island nation off the coast of West Africa. Its lively rhythms, call-and-response singing, and energetic dance movements characterise it. Batuku is often performed by a group of women who gather in a circle, clapping, singing, and dancing while a soloist performs in the centre of the circle.

You’re welcome to learn the basics of the dance (torno), clap along to the rhythm of the txabeta, and release your voice through humming. Let’s practice together and celebrate our culture in unity!
