Michael Barnes-Wynters (aka Barney Doodlebug)
Stepping into Madchester from his home town of Bristol back in 1989, Barney has been an ‘unsung hero’ and crucial instigator in Manchester’s club and arts scenes since his arrival playing past, present, future eclectic Black music.
His Hoochie Coochie nights at Oscars, Dry 201 Bar and Atlas Bar launched the careers of numerous DJs whilst nurturing the likes of Mr Scruff and Andy Votel and platforming female DJs. His Doodlebug ‘detonations’ (Manchester/London/Tokyo) at numerous clubs/unsanctioned spaces including the likes of The Hacienda and Hoxton Square’s Blue Note, have become folklore.
